Nokia Lumia 900 Review

Image
By Introducing the Lumia 900, Nokia is effectively bringing a larger, 4G LTE, version of their Lumia 800 to the market.  It has just about all the qualities of its predecessor, but the larger size changes the user experience slightly, and the battery life seems to be better out of the box. The Nokia Lumia 900 builds on the new industrial introduced by the Nokia N9 which uses a single bloc of polycarbonate that effectively becomes a cradle for the rest of the phone. This makes it extremely resistant to shocks, while giving it a soft texture. The question is: are you ready to try Windows Phone?

Samsung Galaxy S III vs HTC One series: the future war

Image
This Summer’s biggest decision for top-tier smartphone customers looking to switch up to the best of the best will be which of the two they’ll be choosing: a member of the HTC One family or the inevitableSamsung Galaxy S III. At the moment there’s a bit of a block in the way of deciding as the Galaxy S III has not yet been detailed, only having leaks and whispers of details released thus far. On the other hand, Samsung has released a massive amount of smartphones (and tablets) since the last hero in the Galaxy S II, and much is to be gleaned and used in a preview-sort of decision right now before the HTC One series is released in the USA as well.

As the world finds itself in a frenzy looking for every smart product they can get their hands on, Samsung continues to move forward with a series of relatively low-cost media machines called Galaxy Players. Today we’re taking a peek at the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6, a device which with its 3.6-inch display has Android 2.3 Gingerbread at your fingertips complete with wireless connections such as Bluetooth and Wi-fi set to have you working with the full gamut of Samsung and otherwise wireless-friendly connections. The screen resolution is relatively low compared to the high-grade Samsung smartphones out there, and the processor is sort of tiny – is it still enough to entice the masses?

Happily, all three of these categories can add the Samsung Focus 2, which goes on sale starting today for $49.99 with a two-year contract. Is it worth your hard-earned greenbacks? Let’s find out.

Samsung knocks Nokia from global phone top-spot

Image
Samsung has ousted Nokia from the cellphone top-spot, taking the number one position in handset sales worldwide, according to research firms. New figures from IHS iSuppli and Strategy Analytics confirm that Nokia has finally slipped from its perch at the top of the cellular tower, the company’s dwindling sales over the past few quarters driving it down to 22.5-percent marketshare in Q1 2012; in contrast, Samsung took 25.4-percent of the worldwide mobile phone marketshare in the same period, while Apple’s stellar iPhone sales recently have pushed the company to 9.5-percent of the global marketshare.

HTC Titan II Review

Image
Over at AT&T you’ve got two giant choices for hero phones if you want to run with Windows Phone Mango – the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan II. Your choices will be based on what you like the phone’s hardware to look like, how nice the camera is, and how fabulous the software runs on either device. Nokia Lumia 900 (black, AT&T)

Image
The good: The Nokia Lumia 900's eye-popping unibody design sets a new direction for smartphone style. Its LTE speeds, vivid 4.3-inch screen, and 8-megapixel camera are high points. The bad: Problems with call quality and minor design flaws like some gaps in the construction and weirdly placed buttons get in the way. The designer camera optics are good, but they don't live up to the hype. The phone shoots 720p video rather than 1080p video. The bottom line: The Nokia Lumia 900's unique design and high-end features make Windows Phone look fantastic, and the $99 price is extremely fair. Despite some flaws, this is my favorite Windows Phone yet. Photo gallery: Nokia Lumia 900 Nokia sorely needs a "hero" smartphone with the looks, the speeds, the specs, and a price that will hush the doubters. With the Lumia 900, Nokia proves that it has the chops to compete. We thought so at CES, where we awarded it best new smartphone, and I think so now. But is the Lumia 900 a br

Will the real Galaxy S III please stand up?

Image
In just a week's time -- that's seven long days if you're an Android fan -- Samsung will take the stage in London to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone.   If you ask me, the May 3 event isn't a moment too soon. Over the last few months, we've seen a constant stream of purported specs, rumored details, and conjecture. In fact, when I look back over the history of Android, I can't think of another smartphone that has garnered this level of prerelease hysteria. Might this be the Galaxy S III? (Credit: SamMobile)
