Galaxy S III fake appears in the wild

Image
Now that the Samsung Galaxy S III rumors have ramped up considerably, now that we’re literally less than a couple weeks away from the release of this device, the fakes have been piling up as fast as the real leaks. There’s not a whole lot of difference between the “real” leaks and the “fakes,” but there’s fabulous examples of both right here, Samsung for everyone. Have a peek at this newest creation we’ve received in the mail just today from an anonymous donor.

Sprint Galaxy Nexus 3G connectivity issues, software update underway

Image
Some Sprint Galaxy Nexus owners have reported having 3G connectivity issues (4G LTE is not yet available for Sprint). While not everyone is affected by the problem, some users did return the device to ask for a replacement (probably those who bought the phone less than 15 days earlier), but it appears that Sprint is already aware of the issue and is already working on a software fix. Here is the statement of the company: “Sprint/Samsung is aware of this problem and will be releasing a software update to resolve the issue. Can’t commit to a date yet, but they are trying really hard to get it released early next week.  Sorry for your troubles,”

You want a Galaxy S III, not a Google Galaxy Nexus

Image
This week Google revealed that they’d be selling their own devices once again, so to speak, with a Galaxy Nexus in-store before the Samsung Galaxy S III release. Of course Samsung manufactures both of these devices, and only one will be hitting your pocket for the Summer – so what’s it going to be? Google wont be carrying the Galaxy S III, but it will have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – but the Galaxy Nexus has that software in the nude.

Samsung knocks Nokia from global phone top-spot

Image
Samsung has ousted Nokia from the cellphone top-spot, taking the number one position in handset sales worldwide, according to research firms. New figures from IHS iSuppli and Strategy Analytics confirm that Nokia has finally slipped from its perch at the top of the cellular tower, the company’s dwindling sales over the past few quarters driving it down to 22.5-percent marketshare in Q1 2012; in contrast, Samsung took 25.4-percent of the worldwide mobile phone marketshare in the same period, while Apple’s stellar iPhone sales recently have pushed the company to 9.5-percent of the global marketshare.

Will the real Galaxy S III please stand up?

Image
In just a week's time -- that's seven long days if you're an Android fan -- Samsung will take the stage in London to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone.   If you ask me, the May 3 event isn't a moment too soon. Over the last few months, we've seen a constant stream of purported specs, rumored details, and conjecture. In fact, when I look back over the history of Android, I can't think of another smartphone that has garnered this level of prerelease hysteria. Might this be the Galaxy S III? (Credit: SamMobile)

Intel Medfield-powered Lava Xolo X900 looking good in benchmark tests

Image
We’ve already conducted a benchmark test on Intel’s Medfield processor in early January this year. So far, based on the AnTuTu (system benchmark) and SunSpider (Javascript execution) tests, the  processor’s overall performance was quite good, compared to other devices including the Galaxy Nexus LTE and the Galaxy Tab 8.9.

Image
Nokia Beta Labs team has just released a set of new Weather widgets for Symbian Nokia Belle devices. “The Nokia Weather widget displays the current weather and forecast in your current location or any other selected city in the world. This package contains two versions of the widget – Weather now and Weather forecast. Weather now displays only the current weather information, Weather forecast displays also a two day forecast. When you tap on the widget, it will jump into the Weather app, where you can get more details. The Weather app always remembers whether you were looking at the detail or overview page, so which page it open onto depends on which page you were looking at last.”

Next Galaxy S III dummy photographed

Image
There’s no lack of buttons sitting around here on the Samsung Galaxy S III unit that’ll almost certainly be revealed early next month at the “Next Galaxy” event. What you’re seeing here is a “dummy” unit that contains the Samsung Galaxy S III guts and software, including a  Twonky app  likely some new version of their Server-based ecosystem. This version of the hardware for the Samsung Galaxy S III is almost certainly next to nothing like the final hardware that’ll be shown off next month.

comScore: smartphones surpass feature phones in Japan

Image
While you may think that Japan has been ahead of the rest of the world for some time when it comes to technologically advanced phones, a new study might surprise you. comScore has put out statistics that show smartphone acquisitions surpassed feature phones for the first time in Japan during February. As for the top cellphone manufacturer, it’s a company we don’t see mentioned often in the US or Europe: Sharp.

Nokia Lumia 920 concept with PureView and Windows Phone 8 on board

Image
The Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 features a pretty unique design as far as phones are concerned. Admittedly they do feel pretty good in the hand plus the curved glass of the Lumia 800 is quite nice to touch, so we guess it’s not a complete surprise to discover this particular Lumia concept by Jonas Dahnert that has borrowed inspiration from the Lumia 800 and 900 (and subsequently the N9).

Samsung Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device update list (USA)

Image
The world of Android-powered devices is slowly but surely making the move towards the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the dominant operating system version of choice, and when it comes to Samsung’s range of Android devices, Samsung has helpfully put up a list of carriers here in the US as well as their respective devices which they carry.

Image
Today the folks responsible for one of the most popular social photography apps in the world, Instagram, have brought that entertainment to Android – and here we’re going to review it! What you’ll find is that this app is extremely similar to the iOS version, it having the ability to snap photos, edit them in brief, and send them out to several social networks. This Android version is said to be superior to the iOS version in several ways by its developers – let’s see if they’re right!

New Samsung Galaxy S III trailer boasts powerful technology…and sheep

Image
Oh, Samsung. The cryptic teases about the company’s next generation Galaxy device just keep on coming. At this point we really hope the Samsung Galaxy S III lives up to the hype. The latest in a series of highly publicized marketing efforts is a video that runs about a minute in length. It starts off with just a bunch of lofty PR speak and intense graphical effects, and then ends with a group of closely herded sheep.

T-Mobile might be getting Galaxy Note

Image
There’s a rumor floating about that the Samsung Galaxy Note, currently exclusive to AT&T, will be making its way to the magenta-colored carrier in the near future. The unique 5.3-inch handset has been making a lot of waves, and going from AT&T to T-Mobile would not require a lot of huge changes under the hood. It’s interesting to think about if nothing else, and there are a couple solid pieces of evidence to the rumor.

HTC One X official cases Hands-on

Image
This week we’re getting our hands on some official cases for the HTC One series, starting with the lovely orange/red case you see here. The cases we’re getting to see for HTC’s hero line of devices, starting here with the HTC One X for AT&T, are part of HTC’s design philosophy with the HTC One series which is essentially: “let the beauty shine through.” In fact we’ve gone so far as to call this first case “Peeking Beauty” on account of it’s protection with a view – look about right to you?

Samsung Mobile countdown site points to tomorrow reveal, hints at Retina?

Image
Apparently there will be big Samsung news unveiled when the calendar hits April 23. The manufacturer has launched a new teaser site with a countdown timer set to expire in the early morning hours of tomorrow, in US time at least. The site is a seemingly nonsensical tgeltaayehxnx.com, but if you put your anagram skills to the test, you can realize that it actually unscrambles to “The Next Galaxy.”

LG Optimus 3D Max

Image
Like the newer LG Optimus 4X HD and the  Optimus Vu , the stereoscopic Optimus 3D Max was made known a week before Mobile World Congress officially started. Like the first-generation  Optimus 3D , the 3D Max (or Cube, as it is known in some markets) made its official debut at the tradeshow and features a glasses-free autostereoscopic display for viewing 3D.

More Samsung Galaxy S3 details revealed, possible 1080p Full HD display and 4G LTE connectivity [Rumor]

Image
So yesterday we  reported  on the possibility that the Samsung Galaxy S3 could be seeing a launch come 3rd of May with the event being held in London. So what sort of device could we be looking at? Well the folks over at BGR are back with some additional details, such as how the device could arrive in two colors: blue and black, while the other option would be in white.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Review

Image
There’s a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet in town, and this one is what Samsung hopes will be a whole new experience driver for the whole hardware family. Where what we’ve seen before from Samsung has been a set of tablets that tried to be everything at once, this and the 10.1-inch version of the Galaxy Tab 2 are both aiming more at the services they can provide with other devices rather than concentrating on that plus content creation plus gaming plus a partridge in a pear tree. What we’ve got here instead is Samsung’s suite of connected services encapsulated in one machine – and it feels nice to use, too!

Samsung Galaxy S III hits Amazon pre-order

Image
A product page for the Samsung Galaxy S III has gone live on Amazon Germany, apparently confirming the handsets price as well as specs including a 12-megapixel camera and 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display. The page, which suggests the unlocked, SIM-free handset will be €599 ($792) when it launches, does not have a release date estimate. However, some details differ from the hardware of the apparent Galaxy S III prototype spotted in the wild in Vietnam yesterday.

The Samsung I9300 might be the Galaxy M, a mid-range Android device

Image
A little over a week ago, we reported on a certain handset with the codename I9300. As it turns out according to a tip sent in to GSM Arena, the Samsung I9300 handset will be known as the Galaxy M rather than the highly-anticipated Galaxy S3.

Samsung Galaxy S III caught on video?

Image
Samsung’s hotly-anticipated Galaxy S III looks to have been caught in the wild ahead of its official reveal early next month, with the third-gen Android flagship showing up on camera in Vietnam. The 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 smartphone has landed over with the arch-leaksters Tinhte, as the Samsung GT-I9300, with an 8-megapixel camera and a 2,050 mAh battery packing NFC support, just as found on the Galaxy Nexus.

Next iPhone said to get new touch panel tech

Image
Apple's next iPhone may tap into new touch panel technology, allowing for a lighter device, according to an Asia-based report. An improvement in production "yield rates" of "in-cell touch panels" has induced Apple to begin working with two Japanese companies, DigiTimes said, citing sources.

How to set up your Nike+ FuelBand

Next iPhone said to ditch glass for Liquidmetal, arrive in June

Image
Apple's next iPhone is once again rumored to sport a metal back using tech Apple's had a license to since 2010, but has not used much. After a brief hiatus, the long-standing rumor that Apple will employ more metal in the   iPhone , has made a return -- and even taken a new twist. Citing unnamed industry sources, Korean news site ETnews says Apple will use Liquidmetal technology for the next iPhone, which the outlet boldly claims will be unveiled at Apple's annual worldwide developers conference.

Samsung Galaxy S III caught in the wild

Image
It’s time to get your Samsung cheering flags out because the Galaxy S III has just been captured by intrepid sneaksters before its launch on near-blurry-cam, front and back. This device is set to be Samsung’s new hero device and will be announced at the start of May at a special Samsung event, with no less than a 12 megapixel camera on the back and an advanced display on the front made to make the rest of the smartphone world look dated. This device appears to be a bit heavier yet thinner at the same time than Samsung’s current Galaxy S II line.

iPad Review (2012)

Image
The New Ipad is here and it features improvements that were much anticipated, namely a very high resolution display, a much better camera and support for 4G LTE networks.  These three features are truly the “meat” of the upgrade, especially from a hardware perspective. To continue supporting its tablet line of products, Apple has kept the entry price at $499, which is competitive for a high-end tablet, but the new iPad costs a bit more to build than the iPad 2 did, so margins will likely go down.

Spotify Overhauls Android App

Image
After Android Spotify fans have been under the impression of being a lower priority to the iOS version of the musical app, Spotify has rolled out an update for them with what seems to be a complete overhaul resulting in a beta version of the app. The update which won’t be automatically pushed to devices for now has a revamp in entirety for users which includes full support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a UI that is based on a slide-out navigation drawer.

Spotify updated for Android 4.0 ICS

Image
This week we’re getting an early preview of the newest version of the mobile version of the Spotify app, complete with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich compatibility. This update to the app has been long-awaited, especially since Spotify‘s Premium Userbase is the only set of folks able to get the full mobile experience with Android. This update has what Spotify describes as a full “top-to-bottom” redesign, works with much higher resolution graphics than ever before, and has an improved new music discovery engine. HTC Titan II Review

Image
Over at AT&T you’ve got two giant choices for hero phones if you want to run with Windows Phone Mango – the Nokia Lumia 900 and the HTC Titan II. Your choices will be based on what you like the phone’s hardware to look like, how nice the camera is, and how fabulous the software runs on either device. As it turns out, HTC may have created a silent hit here in the face of the massively promoted Nokia device – will it survive a secondhand mention?

T-Mobile HTC One S Review

Image
HTC’s new One Series got off to a good start, and now the company has to do the same in the US. We’ve already reviewed the One S comprehensively in European form, back when the smartphone first wenton sale. T-Mobile USA‘s version brings much the same to the table, only with support for the carrier’s HSPA+ bands. Read on to find out whether this is the One phone you should be buying.

Why Instagram just made the lives of Facebook's IPO bankers a lot easier

Image
Persuading institutional investors to buy into a company still sorting out a mobile strategy has been harder than it seems. Besides the 13 lucky engineers working at Instagram, another group lucked out when Mark Zuckerberg decided it would be a good idea to plunk down $1 billion to buy the company: the bankers charged with drumming up interest in Facebook's (presumably monster) IPO.

Nhận diện Samsung Galaxy S III qua những tin đồn

Sony Xperia arc S ROM ported onto the Galaxy Nexus

Image
Different Android users like different UIs that different manufacturers ship with their phones. Some might like the HTC Sense UI and will go for a HTC device, while others might prefer Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, while others prefer a stock experience as how Google had intended Android to be like. Unfortunately sometimes it will result in a toss up between hardware and software, with some deciding that they’d rather have hardware that meets their specifications than a fancy UI. If you’re the owner of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus but you’ve always had a soft spot for Sony’s Xperia arc S’ UI, you’re in luck.

Samsung Galaxy S III vs HTC One series: the future war

Image
This Summer’s biggest decision for top-tier smartphone customers looking to switch up to the best of the best will be which of the two they’ll be choosing: a member of the HTC One family or the inevitableSamsung Galaxy S III. At the moment there’s a bit of a block in the way of deciding as the Galaxy S III has not yet been detailed, only having leaks and whispers of details released thus far. On the other hand, Samsung has released a massive amount of smartphones (and tablets) since the last hero in the Galaxy S II, and much is to be gleaned and used in a preview-sort of decision right now before the HTC One series is released in the USA as well.

[Review] Apple iPad (March 2012, 16GB, Wi-Fi, black)

Image
The good: Apple's new iPad includes a stunning new screen, matched by a quad-core graphic processor and the world's largest app and media store to feed it content. There's a proper 5-megapixel rear camera now, with 1080p recording quality. Optional 4G data from AT&T and Verizon afford an uncompromising mobile experience. The bad: The new iPad is slightly heavier than last year's model; apps and movies optimized for the screen might take up more space; and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD require adapters.

Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 Review

Image
As the world finds itself in a frenzy looking for every smart product they can get their hands on, Samsung continues to move forward with a series of relatively low-cost media machines called Galaxy Players. Today we’re taking a peek at the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6, a device which with its 3.6-inch display has Android 2.3 Gingerbread at your fingertips complete with wireless connections such as Bluetooth and Wi-fi set to have you working with the full gamut of Samsung and otherwise wireless-friendly connections. The screen resolution is relatively low compared to the high-grade Samsung smartphones out there, and the processor is sort of tiny – is it still enough to entice the masses?

[Review] New iPad Review (3rd Gen)

Image
Apple’s new iPad arrives to more than its fair share of expectations. The third generation tablet follows models that first created and then accelerated the consumer slate experience, and all eyes are on the new iPad to see whether it can keep up the momentum. Those eyes will have plenty to reward them, too: the biggest change to the new iPad is its incredibly detailed Retina Display. Pre-orders are through the roof, and queues outside Apple Stores began a week ahead of sales starting: there’s no doubting interest is high, but does the new iPad live up to expectations? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.
